Better Faster Teeth Cleanings!

Dental cleanings; also known as scaling, is performed by our trained Dental Hygienists' to create an environment that not only encourages positive oral health, but overall health. The focus of a cleaning appointment is to prevent and eliminate the causes of irritation and infection in the mouth. Gingival inflammation and destruction of the bone that surrounds the teeth is the result of soft plaque, and hard calculus deposits that contain harmful pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria) that attach to the surfaces of the teeth. By removing these irritants with regular cleanings, we can interrupt and stop the progress of gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Did you know that hidden problems with your overall health can often be detected in your mouth? The oral tissue in our mouth is a sensitive indicator of our health. Increasing research has shown that there is a direct link between our oral health and overall health. The bacteria in our mouth that causes gum disease has been linked to a number of serious illnesses that include heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, and preterm low birth weight babies.

The Dental Hygienist can help during your scaling appointment by assessing the following:
  • past and current medical history to aid in optimal healing.
  • perform a thorough Oral Cancer Screening.
  • examine the tissue inside your mouth for any signs of gingivitis or gum disease.
  • remove the bacteria, and both hard and soft deposits from your teeth.
  • remove stain with a dental polish.
  • strengthen the enamel and protect the roots of the teeth with flouride.

These regular cleanings and checkups are vital in maintaining oral health and overall health.

I haven't been to the dentist in 6 years because of bad experience and I finally gave in to see a new dentist. I picked Dr Shulakewych because of his ratings and they're right. I have 2 sets of cavities between teeth on opposite sides of my mouth. He did work on one side and book another appointment for the other so my whole face wouldn't hurt and be frozen. He was as gentle as he could be and I hate needles so he walked me through the freezing. The next day he personally called to ask how I was feeling and make sure if anything was wrong I call and go in. I have mainly changed my mind on dentist now. As well there have a very friendly staff and they try to learn you by name and face so when you walk in they know who you are.
